FOOTBALL GAME SCHEDULE AND INFORMATION
OCHS v. Fern Creek
Friday, October 2nd, 2020

B-Day students will NOT be in the building on Friday, so you will need to plan your transportation to arrive in time to accomplish the schedule below!

The Boosters will provide an individual Hometown pizza (cheese, pepperoni or sausage) and water at 4:30 p.m.  PLEASE be sure to complete the Google Form by the end of the day Tuesday, Sept. 29th!!  All who are on the “A-day” schedule may find this is the best way to get some food prior to the game, as you will already be “in the building” at 3:45.  “B-day” students can either order pizza and eat when they arrive (by 4:30) or provide their own pregame meal.  Regardless, band members visiting the concession area after halftime won’t be possible, so plan to eat “free” pizza or eat on your own prior to arrival in time for rehearsal. QRCode for the pizza order is below.

""

We will dress in uniform tonight! (no hat/gauntlets/gloves).

If you are a “B-Day” student coming from home, you should arrive at the school ALREADY DRESSED in your uniform by 4:30.  If you are an “A-Day” student, you should put on the uniform between school dismissal and the beginning of our rehearsal at 5:30—there won’t be time after rehearsal ends!  You’ll need to remember your SHOW SHIRT, BLACK CREW SOCKS, and your MARCHING SHOES.  You will keep the uniform at home the remainder of our marching season.

Weather is predicted to be in the low 50’s during the game and dropping.  While we will not be wearing hats or gloves with the uniform, you will be allowed to bring jacket/gloves/hat with you to wear in the stands (not on the field during the "show").  I would suggest bringing (A’s) or wearing (B’s) a base layer to help keep you comfortable and as warm as possible.

ALL MUST COMPLETE THE BAND HEALTH CHECK PRIOR TO ARRIVAL AND ATTENDANCE QR’s!

3:45                       School dismissal; A-Day folks report to band room, pick up uniform, dress.
4:30                       other band members arrive; recheck temps; pizza dinner (provided)
5:20                       Move to back lot for rehearsal
5:30                       Rehearsal on blacktop
6:00                       Break/restrooms
6:20                       Rehearse National Anthem (band practice lot)
6:45                       Put horns in cases; form block to move to stadium through fieldhouse gates
6:55                       Move to our seats; assemble instruments.  If we have time, we’ll play 1-2 tunes
7:24                       Play National Anthem/Fight Song
7:30                       Kickoff
8:40est                 HALFTIME—set up on field per “the plan”, play 3-4 tunes and fight song

You will be allowed to visit restroom facilities in the visitors locker room (men) or the restrooms near the concession area (women) by sections throughout the third and fourth quarter.  IF YOU MOVE, YOU MASK!!

After halftime: return to seats, restrooms.  We will have water available, but a concession stand visit will not be possible.  Remember to comply with social distancing, masks, etc.  Let’s try to get it all done before end of 3rd quarter so we can play!

10:00 est             Game ends; we will play one or two tunes to allow crowd to clear
10:20                    Mask up, form our block (remember to properly distance and wear your mask). Return to the band room; store instruments as needed.

WE WILL STORE MARCHING UNIFORMS AT HOME UNTIL WE ARE FINISHED WITH  FOOTBALL SEASON.  A-Day students should take their uniform bag HOME tonight to store the uniform properly.  B-Day students will have already taken the bag home, and will simply wear the uniform home and store it.  FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPER UNIFORM CARE!

Dress:                 Full uniform + mask (no hats/gloves/gauntlets tonight); show shirt under bibbers.
Expect a game temperature in the mid to low 50’s!!!
Halftime:          All Along The Watchtower, Bad Guy, I Want You Back, Magic Carpet Ride, Fight Song

Football Volunteers

Can you believe next Friday night, October 2, will be our second fall football game and the Marching Colonels will play? We had such great help last game, we are in need of volunteers to keep the greatness going.  (Please notice Graeters Ice Cream is included in this sign up and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift has its own place to volunteer).  Our volunteers will need tickets to get in.  Band will have notice 48 hours before the public can buy them at 1pm on the day of the game.  These tickets are for present band members and their family.  Alumni will need to wait until Friday.

BAND REHEARSALS FOR A/B SCHEDULE

Our required after-school rehearsal schedule going forward, beginning 9/29:

ALL B Day students will rehearse: Tuesdays from 4:00-5:15
ALL A Day students will rehearse: Wednesdays from 4:00-5:15

Because students are expected to put in 40 minutes on the days they are not in the building, all will receive assignments to do on the days they are not here for their class.  Band students will see these in the form of home practice verification, individual performance assignments (recorded), and music theory sheets.  You can find the seating charts/assignments for the A/B "bands" by clicking the links below. These have also been uploaded to GOOGLE Classroom.

A Day Student Seating Chart

B Day Student Seating Chart

Each student will set up for their in-person classes on the SAME marked spot (dots in the band room floor, numbered) for all rehearsal activities, during or after school.  These spots are socially distanced; each student will continue to use their personal music stand.  Music folders for each student will be issued on 9/28 and 29; all should bring their printouts for concert band music with them on the first day of in-person classes (see Google Classroom/Materials)

All students are expected to attend one rehearsal after school each week, and are graded on their attendance and participation.  In addition, our sectional coaches will by necessity be using this time to pull their sections for their time with the students and/or any individual lessons you might arrange with them.  These rehearsals are extremely important, especially with the alternating nature of our in-person opportunities and the fact that "both bands" (Symphonic I and II) are randomly combined under the A/B format.

Finally, please take full advantage of the communication sent through booster email, the website, Remind, and IC Messenger.  We can guarantee there WILL be changes, usually at the last minute, that will impact us going forward.  We will do the very best we can to keep everyone in the loop!  Attendance is expected at band rehearsals.  If you’re unable to attend for any reason, please notify Mr. Rogers at [email protected]

ALL students must complete the attendance check in to verify your arrival and attendance–this is in ADDITION to the health check survey and is used to confirm your attendance at required rehearsals and performances.

A-Day/B-Day schedule for in-person CLASSES, beginning NEXT MONDAY

A Days: Monday, Wednesday, + Alternating Fridays
B Days: Tuesdays, Thursdays, + Alternating Friday

Next week 9/28-10/2:
A’s: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
B’s: Tuesday, Thursday

Second week 10/5-10/9:
A’s: Monday, Wednesday
B’s: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

Please note, horn drop off can be done at the front door of the school if parents are bringing them to school for non drivers.

BAND CALENDAR

It has come to our attention that some are still confused about football games/dates.  Nothing has changed from the schedule of games announced in February and posted with the summer information other than the first scheduled game being cancelled.

HOME FOOTBALL DATES (Required Performances)
October 2nd vs. Fern Creek ( Homecoming)
October 16th vs. Bryan Station
October  30th vs. Collins

Fall Break October 19th -23rd

There has not been a band calendar published yet because everything has been so fluid in terms of scheduling in general.  Normally, we would publish a set calendar.  Rather than doing that and having to change everything multiple times, we will continue the practice of getting all information concerning potential performances and rehearsals out to everyone in as timely a manner as possible.  With that in mind, here are some future events we will attempt to hold between now and Christmas break; you should consider these "tentative" at this point, because the venue may need to change to accommodate either the audience or the performers:

November 12th: Fall Concert
November 13th: Jazz Cafe I
Seating Auditions: November 16-20
December 15th: Holiday Concert

There will be "more", but that’s all we have at this point.  We will update any changes or additions as they come.

Snap! Raise Update From Mr. Rogers

Snap! Raise kicked off this past Monday and we are looking forward to a successful fundraiser.  We will give weekly updates on our progress.  Thank you to everyone who is participating.

If you still need to sign up, you can do that by clicking here.

You will be directed to add your emails. The expectation is that every member of the band has 20 QUALITY EMAILS uploaded to your profile. I will be able to track this!  Make sure your emails do NOT include students, teachers, fake emails, etc. and are only legitimate potential donors. Again, Mr. Rogers will be tracking this. There will be incentives for those that participate fully in this campaign, so please get this done!

Click here and WATCH THIS VIDEO for steps on how to login, or create an account, and pre-load your emails. Thanks for all your hard work toward another successful Snap! Raise project this year!  Snap! Raise information is also posted at the OHCS Band Website. Click here to get started with your Snap! Raise homework!

Corporate Sponsorships

Last year, many outstanding businesses and corporations supported the Oldham County High School Band by donating goods and services for our marching and concert 2019-2020 seasons. The entire band and our many football game and concert attendees had the benefit of their generous support as they enjoyed each of our band’s musical performances. We were–and are–very grateful for their support!

Corporate Sponsorships are $500 annually and the fee may be waived in exchange for services and goods that help to make the band successful each year. Examples of these goods and services include donated catering services, printing services, uniform cleaning services, web hosting services, and sign and banner production services. If you are interested in sponsoring the OCHS band for the 2020-2021 school year, please contact us. Or if you’d rather speak in person, Katie Fuller is happy to stop by and talk through how your business can support our band this year.  Complete the contact us form and she will setup a time to meet with you.
