Weekly Band News: June 6 – June 12

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REMINDERS

  • Congratulations to Brayden Gossett and GracieBurrows on being selected as the OCHS Drum Majors next year!
  • Rehearsal on Monday June 7th (the last day of school) is for anyone returning to bandnext year (along with any 8th graders) from 4-6 pm to pick up and go through marching band music.
  • As the end of the year approaches, we still need Committee Coordinators for next year. See the listing below and email [email protected] if interested. TWO POSITIONS THAT HAVE SENIOR PARENTS ARE SCRIPT CARDS AND LETTERMAN JACKETS. THESE MUST BE FILLED SOON.
  • We have someone who has volunteered to fill the Freshman at Large spot for next year. We will have an election at the next band booster meeting. Anyone else interested in running will need to email at [email protected] by Monday, June 21st.
  • Parents of Graduating Seniors… This will be your last band email as we will be archiving this senior class into alumni. If you have an incoming 8th Grader, please email their name and instrument to [email protected] so their transition into band is smooth and you do not miss any communication.
  • The next Band Booster meeting will be Monday, June 28th at 7:00pm in the band room.

LAST DAY REMINDERS

CONCERT INSTRUMENT CHECK IN:

This will be done using the same Google Form used for checkout at the beginning of last year.

Anyone playing a school owned instrument should plan on checking it IN tomorrow (Monday) so they can be sent in for their annual maintenance. THIS INCLUDES TAKE-HOME INSTRUMENTS issued to students for home practice (euphoniums, horns, tubas, etc.). PARENTS can bring these instruments from home when they come to pick up their student at the end of the reading session.

Anyone NOT attending tomorrow afternoon’s event must bring the instrument in on Tuesday. We will be sending the instruments in for maintenance on Tuesday afternoon!

If you are involved in a summer music opportunity (Wind Band Institute, Foster Camp, etc.) and need an instrument to use for that purpose, you’ll need to work that out with me individually on MONDAY to make those arrangements.

MARCHING INSTRUMENT CHECK OUT:

Mellophones and marching baritones are the primary “different” horn used outdoors. These can be officially checked out after the reading session, but you should expect to take a little extra time to complete the Google Form. You can take the instrument home after you’ve completed the checkout process.

All Percussionists will be responsible for an instrument rental fee that covers both the marching and concert equipment used for the year.

No fees will be collected for school owned instruments tomorrow; you’ll receive a form in your email to complete and return with your rental fee.

The Band Boosters are organizing a silent auction for Oldham County Day which is Saturday, July 17th. We will be collecting the following items from each grade level from now until July 8th. You can either drop in the bandroom during the rest of the school year or on the front porch of Stephanie Skeens’ house at 603 Scott Montfort Dr. LaGrange ( There will be a bin on the front porch beginning June 1st) during the month of June. When July rehearsals begin you may drop in the bandroom.

Upcoming Seniors: Items for a “Gift Card Basket.” These can be gift cards in any amount from area restaurants, stores, etc. Might utilize our Scrip fundraiser to order any gift cards.

Upcoming Juniors: Items for a Family Game NIght Basket. Board games, card games, anything fun a family can do together.

Upcoming Sophomores: Items for a “Coffee, Tea & Fun Snack Basket.” K-Cups, tea bags, creamers to go in coffees, mugs, fun snacks of any kind.
