Gift Card Donations
In the past we have provided meals for the 12 section leaders each day during band camp. This year, because of COVID we are unable to provide this service.  As an alternative we are asking for $10 Gift card donations to area restaurants to show our appreciation for their time and the expertise these instructors give our students each day at camp.  If you would be willing to help out in this way, please click here to signup via Signup Genius. Once you sign up, (or if preferred, send $10 and we will purchase the cards) please bring your donation to rehearsal in a marked envelope Gift Card Donation/Section Leaders and give it to Mr. Rogers.  If you have any questions please email Nicole Tschappat at nicole.[email protected] or Tammy Passafiume at [email protected].

Virtual Online Academy
The Virtual Academy is not and cannot be a band class.
Parents and students choosing the Virtual
Academy option for their academics probably would be best served through employing a private instructor for the year and returning to the program for 2021-22. There is no way a student could “practice” on his/her own and just show up for the performances. All of the work done through in-person instruction would not have occurred, and ensemble performers train themselves through the rehearsal process to “know” each others’ contribution to the whole in performance situations.

Going “virtual” would open up the possibility of taking another academic course in place of the band class, but also would likely mean these students would not return to the program at any point in the future.

Lessons are great for moving the individual forward but will never take the place of the ensemble experience or all of the collaborative activities involved in producing successful performances together.

Sad, but just another uncomfortable choice students and parents may have to make based on their own situation at this point.

Health Check Form

Everyone should complete this form prior to arrival at rehearsals this summer; temp check and a few questions.  Anyone answering "yes" to any of the questions should stay home and follow the directions prompted.  Click here to load the Health Check Form or use the QR option provided below.

QR Code for Health Check

Keep this info handy (maybe print a copy of the QR and put it on the fridge…) as we get through the month of July and early August!

Marching Band Rehearsals

Marching Band Rehearsals have begun. The marching band will meet Monday and Thursday evenings during July and August.  Rehearsal Dates at this time are scheduled for Brass Days, July 20, and August 3.  Woodwind and Percussion Days July 23 and August 6.  We hope to rehearse as a FULL BAND on August 10th.  Details for how rehearsals will take place can be found by clicking here or on Google Classroom .  Rehearsals will be 6:00 – 8:30 pm and are held at OCHS.  Attendance is expected at summer band rehearsal if you are in town.  If you’re on vacation or out of town for any of these dates, please notify Mr. Rogers at [email protected].

For Rehearsals Students will need to bring:

  • Face Mask, to be properly worn at all times on campus.
  • Each Student will need to bring their own wire music stand with their name on the stand. If you do not have a stand, you can obtain a stand/carry bag from the band program at the first rehearsal for $8.00.
  • Flip Folio, These can also be purchased through the band program at the first rehearsal for $8.00.
  • Water bottle, Clearly identified with your name.
  • Pocket Hand Sanitizer
  • Please wear Athletic Shoes, Flips flops and Sandals are highly discouraged.  Being on your feet on HOT concrete, you’ll want safe, and supportive shoes.
  • Hat, Sunglasses and Sunscreen.

In order to keep students hydrated throughout band rehearsals, we ask that each band student bring in a case of bottled water the first week of summer band rehearsal. These bottles will be used if a student forgets their water bottle or needs additional water during rehearsal. This water supply is also used for the band members during football games. Other items needed include disinfecting wipes, and hand sanitizer. Thank you in advance!

Marching Band Camp will be July 27-31

The band camp schedule is different than in past years, with a morning (8-noon) and evening (6-9) pairing of rehearsal blocks. Students will not be allowed to remain at school during the middle of the day, and should go home, relax/eat, and return for the evening sessions each day. This cuts out approximately 2 hours of playing rehearsal time each day. I have not yet determined how Friday will look for sure, but could be morning session only.

Attendance is mandatory for all band students.  Band Camp information can be found on the OCHS Band website at by clicking here or on Google Classroom. This is the most current information but with so much uncertainty, could be subject to change based on updated instruction from OCHS or OCBE.

Spirit Wear/Show Shirts

A few parents have asked about additional shirts for themselves or other family members.  We have worked with the shirt vendor to set up an online store where you can make these orders.  If your student is in the 2020/2021 OCHS Band—ONE short sleeved shirt for your student is INCLUDED in Band Fees for the year.  Please note that you would only order for them if you want extras or additional products.
Orders that were placed by Friday, July 17th will be delivered on July 24th. Orders placed after Friday, July 17th will be delivered late August.  A portion of the proceeds for these sales will be donated back to the band.
Click here to order OCHS Band Spirit Wear. There are lots of sizes and styles. They do have extended sizes.
