Mid-Week Band News: October 30 – November 2

Time is of the essence in getting forms and audition fees returned!  Please use the, type-in PDF form posted on eboard and Google Classroom for the audition and turn it in along with the $6.00 audition fee NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31st.

Random audition times will be assigned for each student, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on November 21st.

Audition materials: All State Band audition excerpts (same as are used for our own seating auditions!); major scales (two of the 12 possible; one sharp key, one flat key).

WKU All-State Clinic
The WKU All State Clinic will be November 4th, the schedule is listed below.  We are still in need of 2 bus chaperones to attend the clinic with students, please follow the link if you would like to assist https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0448aaa628a3fb6-wkuall.

1:30    Band room opens (Load equipment)
2:00    Depart for WKU (We will make a quick stop for food at Cave City.)
5:00    CST Arrive WKU (Complete registration forms; find assigned rooms.)
5:30    Clinic begins
7:00    Clinic ends (Pizza and drinks compliments of WKU bands)
8:00    Leave for home
11:30  Estimated Home Sweet Buckner—please have your ride here to pick you up!

$$ for a fast-food stop

I would recommend bringing a snack of some kind to school to help carry you over until the
end of the clinic. We will stop for food on the way to BG, but they won’t hold up the start of
the sessions for us if we’re late! With pizza and drinks being served after your sessions end, I
wouldn’t count on anything other than coming straight home afterward!

Parent Teacher Conferences
Please utilize the corrected attached link to access a Google Form for parent conference signup on November 5 (election day), November 20 or December 11th. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdXGIs-DqG2i-GmIxg8st_8_OAi182wTGpBKpxBdfr15Cojww/viewform?usp=sf_link You should be receiving an IC portal message from the school in the coming days referencing these conferencing opportunities with all of our staff.  If you can’t make one of the dates/times work for you, please reach out to me via email at bradford.rogers@oldham.kyschools.us, and we’ll set something up outside of the scheduled days!

Band Photos and Fall Concert
Formal photos of each of our bands and the combined group will be made on the day of our Fall concert (November 14th).  We will shoot the photos in the auditorium, on stage, in our concert attire beginning immediately after school.  Photos will be taken with the combined band first, then Symphonic II and Symphonic I.  We will reset the stage with percussion instruments following the photo shoot, and the plan is for anyone wishing an individual photo with their instrument to have them made after the full band shots are finished.  I’ve asked that we organize a tailgate style meal for all students prior to the warmup for the concert so we can get all of this done without a panic.

Jazz Café

All District Auditions
All District auditions will be held at OCHS on the evening of November 21st (we host).  We will need all hands on deck for this event.  Volunteer signups are needed in the following areas.. Judge’s Dinner, Table Monitors, Room Monitors, Hallway Monitors, Concessions and Ice Cream Sales. To assist with the All Districts Auditions, please click the following link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0448aaa628a3fb6-alldistrict3.  This audition selects members of two high school All District Ensembles and serves as the first cut audition for the Kentucky All State Bands.  Students who are judged to have a reasonable opportunity to succeed at the All State audition will be recommended to take that audition on December 14th (John Hardin HS, Elizabethtown).

All State Jazz Band
Auditions will be held on Saturday, December 7th at St. Xavier High School.  A separate audition process is involved for these highly selective bands.  All Jazz Ensemble students have received a copy of the audition excerpts, requirements and other information.  We have been working on the excerpts as a group in class; hopefully we can have some of our students give this a shot!
