Mid-Week Band News: Nov 18 – Nov 21

 SEATING AUDITION UPDATE

Due to the current situation in which we are returning to NTI instruction, auditions for chair placement in the OCHS bands will be postponed until after the all state audition window is closed on December 3rd.

We will begin online submissions through Collabra beginning on December 7th, with all due no later than the end of the day Monday, December 14th.  Percussionists will need to plan an appointment with the equipment in the band room sometime during that week to record your audition materials.

Auditions will be evaluated over the Christmas holidays.

NTI / REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

11:00-noon/1:00-3:30 Office Hours, small group virtual collaboration, individual lessons

Rehearsal Schedule:

On Tuesdays, all Symphonic Band II woodwinds and brass–9th graders will meet.

On Wednesdays, all Symphonic Band I woodwinds and brass–10th-12th graders will meet (possibly in the OCHS cafeteria; even more space.)

All percussionists will meet on Wednesdays with Mr. McMonigle at the same time, but in a separate rehearsal to meet the requirements for total group size.  They will work on band parts, individual technique, and percussion ensemble literature.

These rehearsals will run from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

If you have a Jazz Ensemble student, they will remain for a 45-minute rehearsal from 7:45-8:30 at the conclusion of the Wednesday Symphonic I rehearsal.

Current VLA students planning a return at the end of the first trimester should join us for these rehearsals as well.

The reason for consolidating students in this manner is to provide an opportunity to work together as actual full bands that hopefully can put together some sort of concert performance (virtual or live) as we work our way through the winter and spring.

This link will give you access to the NEW health check form each student and staff member will need to complete PRIOR to leaving home for these rehearsals; a QR code document for printing/scanning is also attached.

Of course, this could all change at the drop of a hat.  Any updates/changes will be sent via email, FB, Remind and through Google classroom.

Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and continued support of your child’s band involvement.  Wear your mask and wash your hands!!

As always, if you have to miss rehearsal for any reason, please email Mr. Rogers at [email protected].

PHOTO COORDINATOR

We are in need of a new photo coordinator.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating volunteer photographers to help take photos at games and concerts and compiling on Facebook.
  • Compile/organize at least two photos per band member either individually or in a group.
  • Take senior photos at the beginning of band season for buttons given to parents on Senior Night.  Buttons can be made at Oldham County Arts Center.
  • Organize the end of year slide show to be shown at the banquet with music from the band throughout the year. Other volunteers/parents can assist with music they have recorded.

Please email OCHSBandnews@gmail if interested.

CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS

Last year, many outstanding businesses and corporations supported the Oldham County High School Band by donating goods and services for our marching and concert 2019-2020 seasons. The entire band and our many football game and concert attendees had the benefit of their generous support as they enjoyed each of our band’s musical performances. We were–and are–very grateful for their support!   Corporate Sponsorships are $500 annually and the fee may be waived in exchange for services and goods that help to make the band successful each year. Examples of these goods and services include donated catering services, printing services, uniform cleaning services, web hosting services, and sign and banner production services. If you are interested in sponsoring the OCHS band for the 2020-2021 school year, please contact us. Or if you’d rather speak in person, I’m happy to stop by and talk through how your business can support our band this year.  Please use the following link for additional information. https://ochs.band/donation
